November 30, 2022, OTTAWA–The Board of Directors of Equal Voice, a multi-partisan not-for-profit advocacy group whose mission is to support women and gender diverse candidates at all levels of government, is pleased to announce the appointment of Chi Nguyen as Executive Director effective January 5, 2023.
Chi joins Equal Voice having spent the past 20 years working in the social innovation sector. She was a recent candidate in the provincial election for the riding of Spadina-Fort York, and has spent her career with leading local and national organizations bringing forward solutions to community challenges.
“I am looking forward to putting my experience along with my passion to work for Equal Voice,” said Nguyen, “I am delighted for the opportunity to lead Equal Voice in its mission to see more women and gender diverse representation elected. Our inclusion is an important part of the pathway to a better and more democratic Canada. Stronger reflection and diversity of representation are goals that I have advocated for my entire career.”
Nguyen has been involved in community building for the past thirty years and is involved in organizations such as BMW Responsible Leaders network, and the Global Diplomacy Lab and has helped to develop public policy, engage citizens and end systemic and cultural inequality.
“We are thrilled to have Chi on board at Equal Voice,” said Dr. Kim Kelly, Board Chair. “Her experience and dynamic leadership skills make her a perfect fit to realize our mission and vision.”
Part of Nguyen’s mission with Equal Voice will include working to help elect women that represent the diversity of Canada, working against hate and injustice in politics, and to embed diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and accessibility throughout the organization and all of its programs, with a commitment to DEI and accessibility at the heart of this work.
“Our outgoing Executive Director, Eleanor Fast, laid the groundwork for the continued progress to come from Equal Voice,” said Kelly. “We are deeply grateful for her work and commitment to this organization and to all the positive change she brought to Equal Voice.”
Nguyen holds an MSc in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics. She is a past YWCA Woman of Distinction and recipient of the Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of Persons Case.
