Voters went to the polls in Manitoba on October 3rd, 2023
Voters in Manitoba elected 18 women or non-binary MLAs this October. Since Equal Voice started monitoring gender balance in elections in 2001 it is the highest number of gender-diverse and women MLAs the province has recorded. With these results, Manitoba is moving up to the 6th position in the gender parity ranking among provinces and territories, with 33% of gender diverse elected officials. Equal Voice is still advocating for gender parity – that means at least 50% of nominated candidates and at least 50% of elected MLAs being women or gender diverse people.
We are keeping track of all the women and gender diverse candidates who put their name on the ballot and the ones who got elected. The goal is to provide a simple and accessible resource for Canadians, journalists, and political parties.
Candidates are included if party or candidate received >5% of votes in the riding in the last election.
